The Ellerslie Flower Show – Christchurch 2012

'Reclaimed Space'

Ellerslie Flower Show

A truly amazing event full of inspirational gardens and displays. As you can imagine  there was a strong focus on the use of recycled materials and the stunning garden ‘Reclaimed Space’ pictured beside was a great example of this.  The stunning heart of steel was rescued from Manning Intermediate after the school hall burnt down. Congratulations to Scotty Fletcher, Ben McMaster and Brian Matthews who received a Silver distinction for their design.

One of my personal favourites was the garden presented by Metro Glasstech.  Casa De Vidro, designed by Sandi MacRae, Kara Burrowes, Maurice Earl and Owen Booth.

Its unique glasshouse sat in the middle amongst a meadow of grasses.  Stunning blue, green and yellow spheres were carefully placed in groups as a feature including one that was piped as a water feature.

This  gold award-winning garden stood out amongst the rest as a modern statement. It also received the Supreme award for Design Excellence.

A highlight for everyone was the stunning work of Fabric and costume designer Jenny Gillies.

This was just one example of her collection that was on show. To see more Click Here to visit Jenny’s site.

If your thinking about visiting Christchurch for the Flower
show next year, write it on the calendar now as it is definitely one not to be missed.
